This isn't enough to get it done and this team is NOT as good now as it was in May.

Comparing an incomplete summer lineup to a post-trade deadline roster? Yeah, way to prove a point.

On paper, last summer's Flyers looked like they wouldn't be able to buy a goal, but wouldn't give up one either w/ Bryz in net and a stacked d-corps... how'd that work out?

Paper is worthless.

Tim does this every season.

How can they replace Richards and Carter. They scored even more this year.

It never works that way. Maybe Fedotenko and Luke Schenn makes them a tougher team.

If it worked that way go add Kyle Wellwood at 700,000 he had as many points as Jagr last year.

I keep reading how they lost Jagr and JVR size up front, but they play a small mans game.

The Flyers will miss Matt Carle. But they still have a very solid top 5, in Timonen, Coburn, Grossmann, Meszaros and Schenn. They have 4 or maybe even 5 good candidates for the 6th & 7th spots in Gervais, Lilja, Gustafsson' Bourdon and Syvret.

Schenn and Gervais were minus players for bad teams. Using +/- like that is a fools game.

They also have about 8 months before the trade deadline and about $8mm in cap room and potential LTIR relief for Pronger.

I am very content with the moves and non moves Holmgren has made. He hasn't added an asinine FA deal, added toughness and Cup experience to the third line and kept Couturier, Brayden Schenn and Voracek, rather than trade them for Nash or Ryan.

Seems the media is upset because there's no new big names to write about.

Because they'll have to actually write about the game instead of the personalities night in and night out?

Does anyone know whether Bruno Gervais has any upside... Not that he's going to bloom into a #1... But, I'd take a solid #6, instead of a 6/7. He's still fairly young at 27.

He played in the top four of a bad Islanders team for a few years. Then he got hurt and traded to Tampa. He had trouble cracking the top 6 there at first, but was pretty much a regular for the second half of the year. He did a solid job, although admittedly weaker competition as he wasn't relied upon to play against opposing teams best lines.

FWIW, as an Islander, he did have solid advanced stats for most of his tenure, and did a decent job. After he got hurt and traded to the bolts, he struggled. I don;t think he'll pass any of the top 5, but I think he could be a solid 6th guy.

He played in a top-4 role for the Islanders paired with Campoli, facing 2nd-tier checking and was very efficient if unspectacular. Had a rough 10-11 with injuries, then rebounded with the Lightning last season. He's got the skating and puck-moving to be an legitimate NHL #6... can move up the lineup if needed... not a physical guy... more of a positional defender... can get overpowered by big forwards... jumps into the play occasionally and has a pretty decent wrister.

I think we can expect a trade of one of either Gus or mab. Perhaps for a draft pick next year. I'd Take a 3rd rounder for Gus in a deep draft

Many may look at the Gervais signing as not overwhelming. And it isn't. But it does improve the team. Lilja was never signed to be a full time every game defenseman. He was signed for depth as a 6/7. Gervais is far more capable of being an every game 3rd pair defenseman then Lillja is. He's RH, and has more mobility then Lilja does. So of the team is no confident in Gustafsson, or Bourdon as a 6th defenseman. Then Gervais is a better choice for a full time slot. And Lilja can still be a veteran depth guy.

I wouldn't. That would be a bad deal. Gustafsson has already shown he can play in the NHL. Who has a better chance of becoming an NHL regular? The player you pick in the 3rd round or Gustafsson? Gustafsson can be sent to the AHL.
The only reason I can see for making a deal like that is if you just want to be nice to him and send him somewhere where he has a better chance of sticking in the NHL.

Thank you.

Love the lack of patience exhibited here day in and day out. Why frivolously deal away a young d-man when he can be sent down to further develop?

dont feel bad Flyers fan, the Lightning overpaid for a player who isnt always gonna put up those numbers Carle greatly benefited from the lack of Pronger and an incredible Philly PP....good luck in Tampa....i mean they got Stamkos too i guess but Carle isnt worth 5.5
